Peking University organizes a Seminar and Photographic Exhibition on Gandhara Art

September 19,2018

The Institute of Humanity and Social Sciences, Peking University organized a Seminar titled “Gandhara Art under Multi-Civilizations” and a photographic exhibition titled “Gandhara’s Smile” in Peking University on 18 September 2018. The seminar focused on the academic research on Gandhara civilization conducted by professors and experts from Peking and Renmin Universities during their academic tour to Islamabad, Taxila, Peshawar and Mardan in April 2018. First Secretary Mr. Raheel Tariq was the Chief Guest at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raheel Tariq appreciated the Institute of Humanity and Social Sciences at Peking University and the experts for introducing Gandhara Civilization and the civilizational linkages which existed between Pakistan and China along the ancient silk routes. He said that multi-religious influences in Gandhara Civilization had been pivotal in creating, flourishing and reconciling cultures in the region. The spread of Buddhist doctrines from these regions to China along the silk route had a lasting impact on Asian and world history.
The 20 day photographic exhibition titled “Gandhara’s smile” included 80 photographs about Gandhara relics and stupas from Peshawar Museum, Taxila Museum and Stupas and Takht-e-Bahi. The photographs were taken by a famous photographer of Palace Museum Mr. Ren Chao, which beautifully captured Gandhara civilization and its art.
The event was attended by around 200 students and academics from Universities across Beijing which shows a growing interest among Chinese youth in Gandhara Civilization and historical linkages between Pakistan and China.
