Meeting of Minister for Science & Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain with Wang Zhigang, Chinese Minister of Science & Technology

Minister for Science & Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain met with Wang Zhigang, Chinese Minister of Science & Technology on 21 October 2019. Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Technology Driven Knowledge Economy also accompanied him. Minister Fawad is on a four day visit to China to attend a conference on bio-medics and traditional Chinese medicines to be held in Changsha, Hunan Province.
 
The Minister Fawad congratulated the Chinese counterpart on 70th Anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China. He lauded All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between China and Pakistan. He added that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has given a new dimension to time-tested friendly relation between the two countries.
 
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral scientific cooperation and expressed satisfaction at the implementation of 18th protocol of Agreement on Science and Technology. They agreed to further strengthen cooperation in development of joint research centers and establishment of joint laboratories. Establishing joint hydro-technology research centre, disease prevention projects and training of the young scientists of Pakistan have been identified as key areas of cooperation. The two sides are also working closely on information and communication technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, big data, renewable energy, advanced materials and nanoscience, cold storage technologies, hybrid seed technologies, dry land agriculture and water resources.
 
This was Minister Fawad Hussain’s first meeting with his Chinese counterpart after he assumed the portfolio for Minister of Science & Technology of Pakistan. The two sides agreed to further steer the process of bilateral cooperation.
