Iqbal Day commemorated in Beijing

The Embassy of Pakistan Beijing held a special event today to celebrate the birth anniversary of the poet philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan for the occasion were also read. The President in his message paid rich tribute to Allam Iqbal who envisioned the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia. He said we can make Pakistan great by following Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi. The Prime Minister said that Allama Iqbal was a great thinker who imbibed in Muslims the spirit of unity through his inspiring poetry to achieve the homeland of their own. We need to reorder our society in light of the teachings of Iqbal. He especially called upon the younger generation to make Iqbal their source of inspiration.
In his remarks, Mr. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador of Pakistan to China said that Allama Iqbal was a man of vision and a great humanitarian. Iqbal message of constant struggle is timeless and has universal appeal which continues to motivate people. Iqbal envisioned the idea of an independent state for Muslims of the subcontinent and his words had the power to encourage them to fight for their rights. The great seer had also foreseen the rejuvenation of Chinese people a hundred years ago.
On this occasion, the famous Chinese Urdu poet Professor Zhang Shixuan, known by the pen name Intekhab Alam, recited an Urdu poem to pay tribute to Allama Iqbal. Ms. Zhou Yuan, Head of Urdu Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University dilated upon the universality of Iqbal’s message and students from BFSU recited verses from Iqbal’s poetry.
