Ambassador’s Meeting with Minister for Agriculture of Punjab, and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad

On 24 March 2022, Ambassador Moin ul Haque held a virtual meeting on Pakistan-China agriculture cooperation with Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi, the Minister for Agriculture of Punjab and Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). 

Noting the Mission’s ongoing efforts for deepening Pakistan-China agriculture cooperation, the Minister for Agriculture highlighted the increasing importance of agriculture sector in bilateral cooperation with China. He expressed provincial government’s keen desire to further expand collaboration in this domain and also ensured his complete support in this realm. 

In his remarks, the Ambassador updated the audience about current status of Pakistan’s agricultural cooperation with China. He highlighted that Pakistan could learn from Chinese experience to expand its agricultural produce and benefit from Chinese expertise in the areas of high-yield seeds, food processing, packaging and conservation. He requested Pakistani experts to identify areas for setting up agriculture- high-tech zones in Pakistan. 

UAF Vice Chancellor highlighted the existing research collaboration between UAF and Chinese institutions. He shared his views about potential areas for future research, need for providing entrepreneurial trainings to Pakistani students and suggested specific products that Pakistan could export to China.
