KHALIL HASHMI
AMBASSADOR OF pAKISTAN TO CHINA
Ambassador Hashmi assumed his responsibilities as Pakistan’s envoy to People’s Republic of China on
11 November 2023.
Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Hashmi served as Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, other International Organizations and Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from November 2019 to November 2023.
Ambassador Hashmi has previously worked as Director General (United Nations), European Region and Arms Control and as Director for Disarmament Affairs, India and South Asian region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Hashmi’s diplomatic career includes bilateral postings at Pakistan Embassies in Copenhagen (1999-2002) and Beijing (2008-2010). He twice served at Pakistan Mission to the United Nations in New York (2004-2007) and (2012-2016), including as Deputy Permanent Representative.
Ambassador Hashmi joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1994. He has worked on a range of policy issues related to arms control, counter-terrorism, human rights and climate change, among others. He has attended several international conferences, chaired a number of multilateral meetings and participated in many bilateral and multilateral negotiating processes.
He is married and has two children.
